7th over: Pakistan 47-4 (U Khan 29, S Khan 2) Usman Khan isn’t done yet, he glances for four past the keeper and then uses his feet to get out to an Axar Patel length ball and drive down the ground for a second boundary in the over,Oh ye of little faith! (It is still done though)6th over: Pakistan 38-4 (U Khan 21, S Khan 1) Varun Chakravarthy dance through an over of googlies and flippers that costs just four runs,Barring something mid boggling, this game is done,5th over: Pakistan 34-4 (U Khan 18, S Khan 0) Shadab Khan joins Usman Khan in the middle,He’s nearly pinned first ball by Axar too but this one was sneaking down leg.

Babar swipes and misses, Axar uproots his middle peg,Carnage,4th over: Pakistan 25-3 (Babar 5, Khan 9) Fantastic over from Bumrah, he’s up at 145kph for most if it before dropping it right down for a slower delivery that flummoxes Babar,Just four runs off it, India well on top,3rd over: Pakistan 21-3 (Babar 4, Khan 7) Hardik Pandya continues with a slip in place, Pakistan in dire need of a parternship.

Usman Khan swings through the line to pick up SIX down the ground.it already feels like this game could have gone for Pakistan, those three wickets were so wasteful.2nd over: Pakistan 13-3 (Babar 2, Khan 0) Pakistan are crumbling in Colombo.Babar Azam flays a two into the off side and Salman Agha squeezes a full ball off his pads for four into the leg side…GONE! That is a poor shot from Salman, no foot movement and no commitment, the ball tamely loops in the air and is caught by Pandya.Pakistan in the mire and Bumrah has two in his first over.

Stone dead! Saim Ayub has to go after Bumrah spears him right in front of middle stump,The batter reviews in vain and burns a review,Uh-oh,1st over: Pakistan 0-1 (Agha 0, Ayub 0) Hardik and India start with a wicket maiden and the stadium is absolutely pumping,Here comes Jasprit Bumrah…Gone! Nightmare start for Pakistan as Farhan skies his fourth ball and is easily caught at mid on.

Not ideal for the team in green,Here come Pakistan’s openers for the chase,A bleached and shorn Hardik Pandya is going to open the bowling for India,Play! An eventful final over with 16 runs and two wickets off it,Shaheen is punished for bowling length, Rinku Singh smearing a SIX over the leg side and muscling a shorter ball away through the leg side for four more.

Sivam Dube is then run out trying to turn a one into a two, that leaves Axar Patel with one delivery to face,He flicks into the leg side and is… caught! Saim Ayub taking a fine tumbling catch,India will be happy with that total, pressure on Pakistan,19th over: India 159-5 (Dube 22, Singh 0) Tariq finishes with 1-24 from his four overs,Shaheen is going to bowl the final over of the innings.

What can India muster?Usman Tariq’s fine performance continues, the Indian captain holes out and has to depart.18th over: India 154-4 (Suryakumar 32, Dube 18) Abrar Ahmed returns and the Indian batters climb into him.Suryakumar whips a four through midwicket before Dube absolutely spangles a short ball over the same area for SIX.Much needed run injection from India, 14 off it.17th over: India 140-4 (Suryakumar 26, Dube 10) Extremely tidy stuff from Usman Tariq, just four singles off his third over.

16th over: India 136-4 (Suryakumar 24, Dube 8) Shivam Dube is the new batter and he uses his long levers to swish a much needed four off Nawaz.A single off the last sees him keep strike.Four overs to go, India will want at least 160 runs on this wicket.15th over: India 127-4 (Suryakumar 21, Dube 1) What an over! Two wickets and just two runs off Saim Ayub’s fourth over.He finishes with 3-25 and Pakistan are right back in this match.

Goodness me! The hat-trick ball is a beauty but somehow misses the edge of the bat and the stumps,If ever a ball deserved a hat-trick it was that one, a ripper!Hardisk is out first ball and India lose two in two balls,Babar holds onto an easy catch in the deep and the Pakistan fans are buzzing,Saim Ayub is on a hat-trick!India in danger of losing the momentum that Ishan gave them, Tilak Varma’s slightly tortured innings comes to a close as he misses a straight one,No need to review that, it was plumski.

14th over: India 125-2 (Varma 25, Suryakumar 21) Ishan Kishan made batting look so simple but the pitch isn’t a free flowing one.Suryakumar and Tilak Varma keep plugging away, seven off the over.Six overs to go, time for a slurp of Tizer.13th over: India 118-2 (Varma 25, Suryakumar 14) Suryakumar survived a tight lbw call at the end of the last over, Pakistan reviewed but it was clipping the bails and thus stayed with the on field umpires call of not out.I might be telling you this now as I got momentarily distracted by watching Detectorists clips… have you seen Small Prophets yet? Magical, in more ways than one.

Anywhoo, another decent over for India, no boundary but ten runs off Usman Tariq.12th over: India 108-2 (Varma 21, Suryakumar 9) Nawaz is driven up and over cover for SIX by Tilak Varma.Pommie Mbangwa giving it the big one on the tv commentary.I always think he sounds like Simon Farnaby when he gets really animated.Just me?11th over: India 98-2 (Varma 13, Suryakumar 8) Beware the judder man when the moon is fat.

Usman Tariq comes on with his stuttering, syncopated action,Suryakumar smack his first ball for four, way too short,The rest of the over is a handful, variations in flight and spin,You would simply hate to face it,Six off the over.

10th over: India 92-2 (Varma 12, Suryakumar 3) Brill over from Mohammad Nawaz as he skips through six deliveries in the blink of an eye, just three singles off it,India half way through the overs,9th over: India 89-2 (Varma 11, Suryakumar 1) The Indian captain arrives in the middle and is off the mark right away with a push into the covers,Bowled him! The dangerman is skittled and Pakistan desperately needed that,Saim Ayub get some turn and Kishan is too early on the stroke.

8th over: India 82-1 (Ishan Kishan 72, Varma 10) Shadab Khan into the attack, Kishan sweeps into the deep and takes two.SIX! A monster sweep into the scoreboard at midwicket! Ishan Kishan is on one.Flatter sweep brings four more, some double teapots can now be spotted amongst the Pakistan fielders. Two twos and single sees Kishan keep strike after plundering 17 from the over.“The Manhattan’s are climbing” says Matthew Hayden of the Indian run rate.

This one is for the ‘Dos,7th over: India 65-1 (Ishan Kishan 55, Varma 10) Lovely soft hands from Kishan as he dabs a late cut off Abrar for four,Four more! Too full from the bowler and Kishan bunts back over the bowler’s head to bring up his fifty! Four more with a lofted cover drive! Abrar goes over the wicket and escapes from the over with two dots and a single from Kishan to finish,13 runs off the over, Pakistan need wickets, pronto,6th over: India 52-1 (Ishan Kishan 42, Varma 10) Saim Ayub comes back for a second over, Kishan plays a real hack into the leg side and just clears the man leaping at mid on.

Four runs the result,Lewk in the bewk,A thick outside edge sees the ball trace across the outfield rapidly for four more,Powerplay done, honours about even,5th over: India 41-1 (Ishan Kishan 36, Varma 5) More spin with Abrar Ahmed.

SIX! Kishan picks his first ball off leg stump and sweeps for SIX,Pressure on the bowler now, Abrar responds well with two dots,Too short with the next and Kishan slaps in the gap at cover for four,He looks dangerous, eleven runs off the over,One more in the Powerplay to go.

4th over: India 30-1 (Ishan Kishan 25, Varma 5) Saim Ayub does a job, Kishan gets him away for a leg side four but its just five off the over.A quick single off the last sees Shaheen hit the stumps with a throw from mid off but Ishan had dived and made his ground.3rd over: India 25-1 (Ishan Kishan 20, Varma 5) Salman Agha gives himself a second over.Kishan swipes a length ball over wide mid-on for four but nearly perishes to a loose sweep shot next ball, it ploops over the fielder behind square and lands safe.Nine off the over, Salman has 1-10 off two overs.

We’ll have more spin too, Saim Ayub is coming onto bowl the next.2nd over: India 16-1 (Ishan Kishan 12, Varma 4) Here comes Shaheen Shah Afridi.Pace very much back on.Bosh! His first ball is banged in and boshed away by Ishan for SIX over square leg.A spawny four off an inside edge follows and it is a frenetic start.

Fair to say the crowd are loving it,Two dots before another edge, this time from Varma, flies to the fence for four,Fifteen runs off the over,1st over: India 1-1 (Ishan Kishan 1, Varma 0) Tilak Varma in at first drop for India after Abishek hauls himself off the field with his second duck in as many matches,What a start from Salman Agha and Pakistan.

Gone! The gamble does indeed pay off for Salman Agha and Pakistan. He spears a ball into the tacky surface, Abishek tries to pull it away but does not time it at all, serving only to plink a catch to Shaheen at mid on!A dot to start from Salman, will this gamble pay off? It’s only the first time he has opened the bowling in a T20I… a single follows as Ishan gets off the mark with a hack into the leg side, the fielder in the deep well placed.Three dots follow… and there’s a wicket!Right then, here come the players.Abishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan stroll out to raucous noise.Pakistan are going with spin to start, Salman Agha has opted to turn his own arm over for the opening stanza.

Let’s play! The players line up for the anthems. In case you didn’t know, India lead the head-to-head record against Pakistan in T20 World Cups by 7-1.Pakistan lost particularly galling knockout matches to their rivals in Melbourne 2022 and in New York in 2024, they were extremely well placed in both only to come out on the losing side on both occasions.Predictably, there was no handshake between the two captains. We might not see boundaries raining quite so freely in Colombo this evening, this wicket has been a little stodgy and has suited bowlers talking the pace off and bowling into the middle of the surface.

Teams:Pakistan XI: Sahibzada Farhan (wk), Saim Ayub, Salman Agha (capt), Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, Usman Khan (wk), Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Tariq, Abrar AhmedIndia XI: Ishan Kishan (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav (capt), Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit BumrahPakistan are unchanged,For India Kuldeep Yadav replaces Arshdeep Singh and Abhishek Sharma comes in for Sanju Samson,The R Premadasa stadium is indeed packed with fans from both sides and Sri Lankan fans who have turned out to see the spectacle,Pakistan captain Salman Agha calls the coin correctly and inserts India,India captain Suryakumar Yadav isn’t fussed – he says he would have batted first.

The pitch will likely be tacky and quite slow, it’s the same one Zimbabwe beat Australia on,Teams incoming! Not that the billion or so people watching will be thinking along these line but the result of this match isn’t crucial in terms of both sides progression in the tournament,Both teams have won their first two games and can suck up a loss, not that they will want to in this particular match,So here we are,A cricket match will take place in Colombo today

Reform and Greens undermining UK commitment to Nato, Cooper says

The foreign secretary, Yvette Cooper, has accused Reform UK and the Green party of undermining Britain’s commitment to Nato.Cooper was speaking at the Munich Security Conference, where Keir Starmer used a speech at the weekend to claim that Labour’s populist rivals, Reform and the Greens, were “soft on Russia and weak on Nato”.“Our national security depends on us having partnerships abroad that make us strong and we have seen both Reform and the Greens undermine that commitment to the Nato alliance,” Cooper said in an interview with Sky News.In the case of Nigel Farage’s party, Cooper said this had led to Reform “not taking seriously the threat from Russia”.“They have refused to have an investigation into Russian interference in their own party despite the fact that their own Welsh leader was convicted of links to Russia,” she added, referring to the jailing of Nathan Gill, the former MEP and colleague of Farage, for taking bribes from a suspected Russian asset to repeat pro-Kremlin positions

As a choice for a book title, How to Launder Money certainly caught the eye. But then again, its co-author George Cottrell claims to know what he’s talking about.A close aide to Nigel Farage, Cottrell served several months in a US prison after being convicted there in 2017 for wire fraud – a chapter in his life he referred to at his book launch party on Thursday night.Farage was among the guests at the luxury hotel Raffles on Whitehall, along with many senior members of Reform UK, but for once the party’s leader was content to let the spotlight fall on Cottrell and his co-author Lawrence Burke Files. One attender said: “George did clarify: ‘There’s nothing in this book that will assist money launderers or criminals

Starmer stresses ‘urgency’ of closer defence ties with Europe at Munich conference

Keir Starmer said there was an urgent need for a closer UK defence relationship with Europe, covering procurement and manufacturing, so that the UK would be at the centre of a stronger European defence setup. In a rare visit to the Munich Security Conference, the British prime minister told the audience, to applause, “we are 10 years on from Brexit. We are not the Britain of the Brexit years.”Starmer argued that the long-term threat posed by Russia and the need for Europe to take greater responsibility for its own defence required the UK to integrate more closely on defence procurement with European allies. The UK and France, often the country regarded as the most resistant to non-EU states accessing the European defence market, are both keen to reopen talks about the UK joining Security Action for Europe, an EU rearmament scheme, after discussions stalled last year over the cost of entry for the UK

‘Handmaid’s Tale future’: Reform’s Matt Goodwin sparks outcry with fertility comments

Reform UK’s candidate in the Gorton and Denton byelection has been accused of wanting a “Handmaid’s Tale future” after unearthed YouTube footage revealed he called for “young girls and women” to be given a “biological reality” check. In a clip posted to his personal YouTube channel in November 2024, Matt Goodwin stated that “many women in Britain are having children much too late in life”.He said: “We need to also explain to young girls and women the biological reality of this crisis. Many women in Britain are having children much too late in life and they would prefer to have children much earlier on.”The comments, first reported by the Independent, have sparked a furious backlash, with one MP describing it as an “alt right fantasy” and an equality campaigner calling it “truly troubling”

Scottish Labour leader says he doesn’t regret calling for Starmer to quit – UK politics live

Anas Sarwar, the Scottish Labour leader, has said that he had a “reasonable” conversation with Keir Starmer yesterday, despite Sarwar having not retracted his call for the PM to quit.Sarwar said that he stood by what he said when he announced on Monday that he wanted Starmer to stand down. But he also said he was “looking to the future”, implying that he is not actively trying to orchestrate Starmer’s removal now.The news on Monday that Sarwar was going to say Starmer should go prompted intense speculation as to whether cabinet ministers would also declare he no longer had their confidence.
