India beat Australia in rain-hit first women’s T20 cricket international – as it happened
Gah, we’re done here folks,The rain is still falling and has kiboshed India’s chase,They were sitting pretty at 50-1 in the sixth over,Shafali Verma looked particularly ominous, crunching two sixes (the only ones of the match) in her 21 before Molineux snared her with her very first ball as captain,Plenty to ponder for Sophie Molineux though as Australia don’t get that new captain bounce, quite the opposite.
They were bundled out inside their 20 overs for just 133, their long batting failed to fire and India looked the sharpest team with bat and ball.Arundhati Reddy is named player of the match, she took 4-22 off her four overs of nagging seam, Georgia Wareham top scoring for Australia with just 30 runs.India take the first couple of points in the multi-format series. It looks as if the players aren’t going to emerge from the dressing rooms for some post match reaction so that will conclude our coverage of today’s match.Congratulations to India, they take a 2-0 into Thursday’s second T20I in Canberra.
